MOSQUES AND MUSLIM CHARITIES: HAVE YOUR SAY!

The British government has launched a consultation on plans to give the Charity Commission greater powers to disqualify charity trustees and senior managers over alleged extremism and hateful conduct.

The proposals could have significant implications for mosques, Islamic charities and Muslim organisations across England and Wales.

Under the plans, individuals could potentially be disqualified over statements made in sermons, speeches, protests or on social media, even where no criminal offence has been committed.

This raises important questions about freedom of speech, religious independence and whether legitimate discussions about Palestine, political issues or religious beliefs could face increased regulatory scrutiny.

We urge mosque committees, imams, Muslim charities, Islamic organisations and individual Muslims to read the proposals and submit their views.

The government is consulting now, which means there is an opportunity to influence the proposals before decisions are made.
