ALHAMDULILLAH
Russia has included the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in its school curriculum through a dedicated “Foundations of Islamic Culture” module.
The curriculum introduces students to the Qur’an and Sunnah, the basic beliefs and practices of Islam, Islamic moral values and traditions, the history of Islam, and the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), including his role as a religious and moral teacher.
The Islamic Culture module is part of Russia’s broader “Foundations of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics” programme, which allows students to study different religious and cultural traditions.
Separately, Russia is introducing a new subject, “Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia,” from the 2026/27 academic year. The new subject will cover Russia’s spiritual and moral values, traditional religions, culture, history and examples of moral conduct.
The development has attracted attention over the place given to religious and cultural education within Russia’s school system.
