Governor Gavin Newsom just signed CAIR-CA’s Eid bill into law
Officially recognizing Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as state holidays!
Co-sponsored by CAIR-CA, the CA Commission on APIA Affairs, and the Muslim Impact Council, Assembly Bill (AB) 2017 permits state and school employees to observe Eid using existing holiday credit or leave time and authorizes K-12 schools and community colleges to close for Eid through negotiated agreements when there is sufficient need.
Gov. Newsom’s decision to sign AB 2017 into law sends the necessary and powerful message that California values and protects its Muslim community in the face of growing hate and hostility.
