Two teenage sisters from Gaza are turning the rubble of destroyed buildings into reusable building blocks.
Tala Mousa, 17, and her sister Farah, 15, won the Middle East regional title at The Earth Prize 2026 for their Build Hope – Palestine project. After their own home was bombed, they developed a low-cost method using crushed rubble and locally available materials to make non-load-bearing blocks. The sisters are now teaching young people in Gaza the technique, with more than 120 people trained across Gaza and the region.
