New hate crime
Reporting hubs have been established at three mosques in Peterborough, England, to make it easier and safer for victims to report Islamophobic and other hate incidents. Cambridgeshire Police has trained volunteers at the Faizan-e-Madina Mosque, Khadijah Mosque and Kurdish Community Centre to recognize hate crimes, guide victims through reporting procedures and connect them with support services. Community leader Faisal Mahmood said the initiative could help overcome long-standing barriers that have left many Muslims accepting abuse as “the way it is.”
